South African Advocacy Organizations Launch Anti-SLAPP Campaign: Asina Loyiko

Last month, a network of South African civil society organizations launched the joint advocacy campaign Asina Loyiko: United Against Corporate Bullying. Asina Loyiko, which means “we do not fear”, was launched to raise awareness and stigmatize the increasing use of SLAPPs by South African companies and multinational corporations across the globe.

This coordinated campaign was sparked by a number of defamation suits brought by an Australian mining company, Mineral Resources Commodities Ltd (MRC), that is suing environmental activists, lawyers, and journalists who spoke out against the company at a university lecture in 2017.
